Welcome to the Forum Brian . . It tends to be rather quiet in here, but John writes EXCELLENT tutorials on aspects of MIDI and related matters, that will enhance your understanding. Keyboard manuals tend to be rather sparse on MIDI, beyond stating that it is a feature . . . . There is generally no discussion as to why (and how) you might want to use it Best Regards parametric

Hi Brian,
Welcome to the MIDI tutorials forum. Thanks for introducing yourself, so few people do!
I too am now UK based having just moved back after ten years of living in Germany.
Thank you Chris (aka Parametric) for the vote of confidence.
The manuals provided with hardware often give a fair amount of MIDI information (or there's a supplementary MIDI manual in the case of Yamaha) but understanding it is quite another matter.
My basic tutorials are designed to help people come to grips with what MIDI is and what it does. After that it's a case of deciding on a piece of software either called a sequencer, or these days MIDI editing is included in a vastly more complex piece of software known as DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software. Examples are Sonar, Cubase, Reaper, etc.
Any questions please ask away and I'll do what I can to help.
Kind regards, JohnG.
