Then this chart might prove invaluable . . .
From a 1936 Publication "The Orchestra and its Instruments", by Harold C. Hind with a preface by Sir Henry Wood
(who devised the Promenade Concerts).
At only 36 Pages - it's very informative. Each section is covered individually, with a compass chart of each "family"
THIS is the Master chart which contains ALL the Families - so its a bit crowded . . . .
