I use PowerTracks Pro Audio software to generate and edit midi sequences for playback on my Yamaha Tyros 2. I have consulted the midi implementation booklet that came with the instrument but can't seem to find what control message is used to trigger the rotary speaker effect ON-OFF. Thanks, Deaton

Hi Deaton,
I'll take a look myself and come back to you shortly.

I found the Sysex needed. F0 43 73 01 50 08 00 08 7F F7 DSP Effect On F0 43 73 01 50 08 00 01 7F F7 Var (DSP 1) rotation speed On
But when I insert the Sysex messages into the organ track/channel nothing happens.

Hi Deaton,
My apologies, I did take a look at both manuals, and did some experimentation with XGworks which, of course, is so old that it doesn't have any of the newer Yamaha keyboards embedded within it. However, what I did discover is that indeed two sysex commands are required to set up any effects, including rotary speakers. The first selects the effect required and assigns it to one of the available DSP effects slots, 1 to 5. The second command then assigns that DSP slot to a MIDI channel. It would then appear that the amount of the effect is then controlled by a MIDI 'controller' which I think is a variation controller and just might be cc#74. But I have my doubts.
What I think may be the best option for you is to trundle over to the PSRtutorials forum where they have sections on all the Tyros series. Mike Bedesem has written several programs (MixMaster comes to mind) which are specifically designed to do the setup for most, if not all, of Yamaha's keyboards. You'll find their details in the 'Sites of Interest' section of this forum.
I don't know of anyone who has a greater knowledge of the way the Tyros uses MIDI.
Sorry I can't be of more direct help. The manuals are not exactly user friendly are they?
Kind regards, JohnG.

Hey Deaton, I just fell onto a FAST / SLOW solution on another synth using MIDI. I plugged it into the pedal settings in Global Edit mode. Uh... cc#1? ....I just got it to speed-up slow-down leslie effect on an Alesis QS7.1. Maybe JohnG can give you a reasonable translation for your rig. Sorry, I have no experience with Yamahas. -Vince S.
