Hi John & everyone. I followed your invitation to join the forum on the XGWorks group. Thanks. My name is Peter. I play trombone and euphonium in a concert band and a brass band where I'm the deputy conductor. My passion is arranging music for both bands and also occasionally for Barbershop and a-capella groups and an accordion orchestra in Holland. I've recently joined a Jazz Band part of the U3A and having fun trying to make up and play harmonic lines from the chord symbols. I started with MIDI in 1992 with a Kawai K1 synth (pre GM1) hooked up to a PC with a Turtle Beach soundcard and running Finale 2 to print out the parts. Since then I've graduated to a SW1000XG card and a Yamaha PSR-640 keyboard and I'm running XGWorks v 3.0.7E and Finale 2009 on Windows XP. I'm not into MIDI in a big way, I use it mainly to proof my arrangements. I know my gear can make some beautiful sounds but that's beyond my knowledge right now, so I'm here hopefully to find out how!

Hi Peter,
Welcome to my tiny corner of the world.
I do hope that you will find something new and useful to you here. If you have any questions regarding MIDI please feel free to ask away.
My own background was, early on, with oboe and flute, taught in the classical manner. Somehow the job with commuting and frequent trips away from home put paid to any kind of practice regime.
I entered the MIDI world with an Atari 520 computer and a Cheetah MS6 then a Yamaha TX81Z many years ago.
Now I sequence rehearsal and backing tracks for my wife, an operatic mezzo soprano and, when the whim takes me, write the occasional tutorial on MIDI or XGworks or the like.
Glad to have you here. Kind regards, JohnG.
