Welcome!
I'm sure you have already discovered that there is much good stuff in here - thanks to John . . .
I've been a member for a while, but don't get in here as often as I should.
My "history" is best explained here: www.chrisnmiller.co.uk/Chris which pretty much describes my route to where I am now . . .
I learned Piano from an early age and can play tolerably well. I have a good grasp of how Harmony "works", but still have much to learn regarding the registers of instruments I DON'T play.
It's all to easy to input parts using an 88-note keyboard that CAN'T be played by the target instrument (IYSWIM) . .
I try to "write" Music by originating it on My Alesis Fusion 8HD in it's sequencer - and exporting the Audio and/or midi to Reaper - for tweaking/arranging/fx etc
So I'm NEEDING to be better at using midi.
Having recently acquired Komplete10 with its plethora of VSTis, the midi aspect becomes more
important for controlling the different articulations that are available, and much else besides.
(one instance being - I just managed to create a nice "musical" rallentando in one of my pieces - for the first time).
The problem I find with ALL of this stuff is - REMEMBERING where you saw the setting, if you want to do it AGAIN.
Reaper is deep and complex, but seems INFINITELY customisable - provided you absolutely KNOW how you want it to be.
I LIKE its overall ethos. The basic licence is good for several hundred updates. It's way more affordable than many of the "Majors" out there (IMO).
I regard this site as a PRIMER, when my midi know-how seems NOT to be working . . . .
John mostly knows my Musical background, but basically, I sang in Choirs for years, most recently with the English Chamber Choir where I was a full time member for about 20 years - now, more occasional.
SO I can read well enough to do pro gigs and recording sessions.
Recently Re-recording of Rick Wakeman's "King Arthur" in the Summer of 2016 - followed by a performance at the O2 Arena in London, a month later.
Just recently (3rd March) we backed Procol Harem at the Royal Festival Hall, and did a re-recording of Black Sabbath's "Supertzar" at Mark Knopfler's British Grove Studios (4th March).
When I watch these guys doing their stuff, it underlines how far behind I am with my own "efforts" - but in other ways - it's inspiring and spurs me on. Which is good, as I seem to NEED to do my Music . . .
I moderate on three other Forums, two are Alesis-Fusion specific, but the other one (where John is also a member is www.yamahaforums.co.uk/forum/index.php?sid=58c5db9f29d0d23d6a92aaf20888da1b
My "Handle" is <parametric> there too BTW . . .
It's a friendly Forum, with some very knowledgeable people in there . . .
It covers Yamaha - and MOST of the "Majors" and Much else besides.
The Guitar section has recently EXPLODED with huge activity . . .
Maxx - you would certainly do well to take a look re: Amps and FX Units
Anyhow - Much to enjoy all round, so see you around the Forums!
Best Regards
